Drive-by Gold

From Samuel!

Celebrity Jay Leno gives a walk around tour of many interesting features of one of his Brough Superior SS100's along with an overview of it's history, design concepts, and manufacture. The video end with a narrated ride along with Jay and some interesting tidbits about the unique riders controls.

It has been said that "riding a motorcycle well at speed requires similar concentration to piloting a fighter plane", the Brough Superior SS100 merits the addendum "and has damned near as many controls".

Deutsch-Engineering Uber Alles or Like You Need Another Reason to Buy a BMW GS

A storm front swept through the Bluegrass this afternoon just as many another has done already this spring setting off weather alerts for Tornado Watches and heavy rain. Given the recent tragedy in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and the prolific tornado generation in the region I pulled up the Wunderground.com radar to see what was what. Nothing new, nothing out of the ordinary. Spring in the Bluegrass.

The sky slowly darkened to the west and I checked the barn doors, mower cover, and the bike cover on the GS which I keep on my porch since the parlor coffee table was not able to support its weight, but that's another story and better left untold lest MrsJAC should nose around the blog. I will say though she is still mighty pissed at our chocolate lab "Pudge" - sorry old girl, but you didn't expect me to take the rap did you!? Anyway, one more radar check, all looked good, the Tornado Watch alert popped off with it's ubiquitous warning as if it were just another disclaimer mandated by government lawyers, and I sat down to eat; secure in the knowledge we would not need to cower in the basement this evening.

As the squall line approached, the wind picked up rather more suddenly than is typical. I was not concerned as this old house has borne 110 MPH winds with nary a shudder or groan. And then I heard a "thump".....

MrsJAC witnessed this heinous act of nature and said my GS was lifted and thrown off the porch. I ran into the storm to assess the damage, not really wanting to know. I determined there was minimal, if any, damage and none to vital mechanical systems or control mechanisms. That left the fuel tank. The Fuel Tank. I shudder to consciously consider the cost of a new BMW Pacific Blue/White Special Edition GS fuel tank. Even now as I type I am suppressing the memory.

Here is what I found:
My beautiful Bike inverted and hanging onto the porch by the right side cylinder head and foot peg, the fuel tank pressed against the planking.

I had back surgery a couple weeks ago (I found a practitioner that does the slickest procedure on a herniated disk with zero recovery time that I will blog on in the near future) and am still restricted to lifting over 20lbs for another 12 days so, having lost me mind, MrsJAC had to stop me from lifting the GS back onto the porch. This wasn't all that easy a thing for her to do and I had occasion to note my girls have become quite skillful at turning their father's black rages (which, I think you will agree, a situation like this surely merits) toward things more constructive than cutting the porch up with a chainsaw to lower the GS down gently. I did manage, however, to "remove" one porch post.....

When a clearer head prevailed I went to Jamie's (my car fixin', horseshoein', barn door building compadre') to get the engine hoist to commence righting the bike to begin assessing the damage and the hit my wallet was going to take to put it back right, for it was going to be put right.

Upon returning home, Jamie had the same idea I did, which was to just pick it up and shove it back onto the porch. I discouraged him, "Dude, it's heavier than it looks. You should see what it did to the coffee table!" So, Jamie called his brother and after Brent made properly sympathetic noises the two of them graciously man handled my GS back onto the porch and back upright. I put the kickstand down and we started assessing damage.

Damage Revealed: ZERO!

German Engineering Uber Alles, by gawd. Thank God. And thanks fellas, y'all are badass.

Been Giving the Harley Fags a Rest Lately, So.....

A young woman goes to her doctor's office, afraid of the
strange development on the inside of her thighs . . .

a green spot on the inside of each.

"They won't wash off, they won't scrape off
and they seem to be getting worse."

The doctor assures her he'll get to the bottom of the
problem, and tells her not to worry until the tests come back.

A few days later, the woman's phone rings. Much to her
relief, it's the doctor.

She immediately begs to know what's causing the spots.

The doctor says, "You're perfectly healthy - - there's no problem. But I'm wondering, is your boyfriend a Harley guy?"

The woman stammers, "Why, yes, but how did you
know?"

"Tell him his earrings aren't real gold."

Only 53% Believe Capitalism is Better than Socialism

An statistic oft repeated by the obese in the motorcycle community is, "90% of people want a Harley" - with the correct response being, "90% of people don't know shit about motorcycles."

Applying the same thinking to the capitalism survey results reveals that the only useful information it transmits is which marketing effort is the most pervasive. Further reading of the survey reveals a breakdown into age demographics with the under 30 mushbrain the most susceptable to commie propaganda. Surprise!

The under thirty crowd isn't long off the teet and generally hasn't found it's feet or a direction in this world just yet. Being that they are tottering economically it is only reasonable that they are frantically searching for another boob to latch onto. Granted, the appendage the government has flopped out has a mainline tap into the zombie-fluid vat but the kiddies are lookin' for anything they think will stabilize their situation.

The MSM has glossed over most of the evils of socialism that are readily apparent in those few countries where it is practiced as closely as possible to it's original intent. Things like food shortages/rationing, heating fuel cutoffs, hospitals becoming short rest-stops on the way to the crematorium, mass imprisonment of dissenters all interfere with the image of a Star Trek existance the proponents of government control of everything wish to convey.

The demographic I would like to see, but none of us will be treated to, is the racial data. Wonder how that breaks down? We should probably skip the "College Educated" sub-category for the under thirties, too.

EP's new, new blog.

Sorry, EP. I had ya' up, but somehow I put you on DJ's link. I'll fix it.

Presidential Job Requirement:The Ability to Talk Out of One's Own Ass

Barry Hussien Obama said something really stupid yesterday about a world without nuclear weapons, so....

The loonies in North Korea launched an ICBM last night which prompted barry hussien to get up the next day and reassert his call for a world without nuclear weapons just to make sure we all know he said it on purpose. He goes on, further, to say the U.S. has a :

“moral responsibility ” to lead the way, as the only nation ever to use them.
Now, I ask you, is that some "visualize world peace"-head-in-the-sand-hippy-bullshit, or what?!

That's better than the clinton's planting flowers on decommissioned missle silos!

The next 3.8 yrs is gonna be really entertaining.

The Provocation....

A skittish motorcycle with a touch of blood in it is better than all the riding animals on earth, because of its logical extension of our faculties, and the hint, the provocation, to excess conferred by its honeyed, untiring smoothness.

More From the "You Can't Make This Shit Up!" Files

God Save The Queen!

Where does this stuff come from?! Are these people children? Suzy gives an ipod to Sally at her birthday slumber party; The United States does not give one to the Queen!

If a writer of satire were to fictionalize the events of Obama's foreign dignitary gift giving he would be accused of racism, stereotyping all black folk as "ghetto", and membership in the vast right-wing conspiracy. There is the slight chance that this behavior is the result of an ill- concealed complete disdain for the anglocentric values of western civilization which britain used to embody, but I can't credit that. The more likely scenario is that Barry Hussein, Michele and the white house staff combined don't encompass the dignity of one Tennessee trailer park crack whore who would know better than to gift the Queen of England with a damned ipod.

One would think after the recent flops somebody would get a clue, but recent events point to the fact:

It ain't in 'em.

Clueless, classless, rude, narcissistict, short sighted, self absorbed, smarmy, stumbling, bumbling, insincere, inept... I could go on. This incident reminds me of some apt vocabulary I picked up from some British instructors I once had. British Ben and Co. will no doubt be refering to Barry as a piker.

Dear Britons,
Those of us here in the Southern US still value and practice civility and the manners our betters taught us. Please forgive the damnable yankee scum their common ways, but remember this the next time they need an ass whippin'.

No More Chevrolet

For decades I have used GM products, the latest a Suburban and many others back to a 1965 Chevy Nova. No more. When some stripling political boss makes a phone call hissyfit demand that the fella running the largest company in the world (quite poorly, obviously) step down to make things easier for the politico's cronies to have their way with the considerable economic weight a corporation of that magnitude can throw around I consider your are dealing with the devil just stepping on one of their lots.

I don't know who had to agree to this, the CEO on his own in return for the standard golden severence package, big percentage shareholders in return for promises of returning share value? Or something more "Chicago" like threatened IRS revue of personal income tax returns, FBI investigations, or even SEC involvement into the personal finances of the company officers and board members.

The apparatchicks are on the loose now with direct control of and assembler who buys from everybody everywhere, who can with a hint of a possibility of the possibility of a contract/plant/expansion get localities to forgoe zoneing, tax levies, or to cough up outright monetary and/or real estate gifts. It's the thing the fedgov has wanted since FDR - direct control of subject governmental entities without the bargaining, posturing, coersion, and capitulation currently involved in the process of the fedgov exerting it's ill-gained authority.

How many more tendrils sprout from the Interstate Commerce Clause as a result of this and similar deals? It will no doubt amount to the application of "special case" law which will give cover for exeptions to currently enforce prohibitions (such miniscule speedbumps as they are) against the fedgov exerting it's will beyond it's jurisdiction. Like traffic law and family law are aids to the further perversion of a system once based at least superficially on the semblence of the adherence to the intent of law and the concept of private property this will be used to short circuit the processes and arguments developed that actually have held off even a small fraction of what our glorious planners have in store for the population of the US in their determined persuit of fascist utopia.

The UAW paid plenty of dough to the democratic party for the election of the apparatchick president and seem to be paying a higher pricetag after the deal was done. Big Labor bosses aren't gonna feel any of this and believe they should not, as they hold themselves to occupy the same social and economic strata as their politbureau and wallstreet counterparts, who know what is best for their little brothers and view their "members" as beasts they hold a secondary title to after the fedgov, of course.

The thing that should have happened is for GM, Chrysler, and perhaps Ford to close up shop. They build plants overseas while the traditionally "foriegn" assemblers build plants in the US. Think that will change when the fedgov starts looking around for ways to encourage a foriegn potentate to see things the State Departments way?

Home Again

I just wanted to thank you folks for adding a whole new dimension to my latest motorcycle adventure. The ability to blog in real-time and being able to share your comments with my lesser companions effectively increased the crowd of bullshitters at stops, which is a good thing and felt sorta like takin' my neighbors along with me. You cheap, lazy fuckers buy bikes and you can ride with me anytime.

I say this because this is what I was forced to share the road with this past week:

I swear I think I lost a few Motorcycle God power points just from being seen in the company of these two.

Gumbo Rally

Never one to leave folks out, I called my little brother last night...

J:Hey, Nate! Wanna get some Gumbo?

N:Dude it's gonna be nasty tomorrow. In the 60's and crap. (Nate is spoiled by Tennessee weather.

J:That's why we're leavin', dumbass.

N: .......

J: ....well?

N: Workin' on it..... (The wheels of computation tick over. Responsibilities are shunted for childcare, yardcare, housecare, calendar obligations are all in the mix; a sticky amalgam of all the things depending upon on a husband and father.)

J: ...... ahem.

N: ..chill!... When're you talkin' about leaving? (The wanderlust has taken hold. This is a powerful pull; Dad's a truckdriver and our wives secretly fear we will, too, one day yield to the pursuit of the fleeing horizon. Irresponsibility, whimsy, and caprice raise their heads to sniff the winds for opportunity.)

J: Noonish. Gotta get a liitle heat in the air.

N: .. Do you wanna borrow the KLX?

J: Nah, I'm good on the BMW......

N: You sure?

J: Look, I'll bring you back a T-shirt or somethin'.....

N: Fuck you you fuckin' fucker!

J: (I try not to laugh. There is the wisp of a possibly that a stifled snort makes it through the ether. This is the best part of these conversations for me. It is always better to be the tempter than the tempted. Lest you have sympathy for Nate's plight you may rest assured the shoe has been on the other foot. He's got it comin'. In spades.)

N: .........I'll make some phone calls.

J: Later man.

N: See ya'.

Environmental Criminal Unmasked

The Evil Earth!

Can somebody explain to me how "Cap and Trade" will be administered with regard to this greenhouse gas producer? Will the "Cap" for everyone else based upon the total official gubmint quantity minus what the Evil Earth spews? Or will the omnipotent obama command the Evil Earth to lower its emissions, or else?

I predict a coalition of hippies and neocons joining forces to convince obama that a War on Volcanoes is a worthy project and a fitting legacy. We have to get this Evil Earth thing under control before it kills..... the Earth! Something must be done! There oughta be a law!

Socialized Medicine: Just What the Doctor Ordered

I know examining an instance where an idea has already been put into practice to evaluate its efficacy is counterintuitive for emoting masses and counterproductive to politicians' goal of extending gubmint control into every facet of our lives, but let's do it anyway.

Britain has been all in with socialized medicine and is one of the bright and shiny places the left holds up as doing things better than us. It seems the British are much more tolerant of little things like, oh.. say, being killed off than the average american.

According to the linked story a hospital in Stafford England has been killing off patients at a high rate due to poor care, lack of care, negligence and Lord knows what the "official report" deigned to leave out. The number 1200 dead in three years
more
than would be expected is what caught my eye.

The Prime Minister is apologizing his ass off to the dead people and telling them it will never happen again. Of course, it only needs to happen once for any one of us and all the apologies in the world will fall on dead ears.

The instructive thing in this situation is to realize that to a leftist the article proves the British system is functioning well in that the government discovered the shortcomings of the facility and moved to correct them within its established program. The most damning conclusion any socialist will draw is that the review interval could use a little tweaking. The conscious among us know the linked result is as inevitable as it is insane.

AIG Bonuses and the Obamatons: We know we didn't know what we knew

Word of the day:

incredulity, disbelief, skepticism, mental rejection (doubt about the truth of something)

So, which is it? Are they the smartest, most well informed, best educated folk in the universe? or are they a bunch of nihilists spouting off about their nonexistent qualifications and qualities in a perpetual amplified feedback loop with the Old Media?

It can't be both... unless this is one of those "nuance" type of situations where what is isn't, but it really is, sort of. That's the way the idea of hoe the Super Scholar Genius Man of the World was unaware huge financial companies paid their executives 7 figure bonuses is being sold.

The sheer convolution required of the damage control effort is something to behold when the reality is probably something closer to the fact that leftists are accustomed to carrying on their shenanigans without criticism (as is evidenced by the thin skin the shiny new president exhibits) and often with active cover from the Old Media either through omission or outright propogation of what passes for rationales among leftists.

Here's what happened: The new fedgov bosses are gleefully throwing money to their fatcat pals all over the financial sector in appreciation for and anticipation of major campaign contributions. Somebody noticed chunks of that cash were going straight into the pockets of the financial companies' officers (same fatcat pals referenced above). That's not what caused the trouble in the Obamanation. What caused the trouble in Obamanation is........ somebody cared. The Obamatons aren't used to the idea folks in large numbers might take exception to their business as usual slimey payola practices. Yes, I know both parties play this game but the other expects to get hammered.

Pull up a chair and we'll watch the next act of the sitcom. What do you want to bet it will all end up being a plot by a right wing extremist(s) taking advantage of Joe sixpack's inability to comprehend the intricacies of high finance? Which, of course, is a good reason for leaving this complicated stuff up to the better judgement, higher intelligence, superior skill, and incisive insight of Obama and the Obamatons. Oh, look, we're back on message!

New Phone Browser: Skyfire Rocks!

It actually works! Skyfire!

Some little reddot looking geek and his pal have this browser in Beta and it runs on winmobile 5 and 6, some other smartphone OS's, and actually displays webpages in desktop format with a useful zoom! Whodathunkit?

I was sittin' around enjoying a rainy day inside and browsing for news on my next phone (Palm Pre) and lamenting a June release date (My old 700wx has had a hard life and I have never been impressed with the built in winmobile web functionality) when I thought to check out Opera and see if it has been improved at all (MrsJAC has the Touch Pro with Opera and Opera doesn't impress - though the TouchPro does)/ The google search turned up the SkyFire site and I am blown away. You will be, too.

It appears to render websites as images and only renders them as HTML when zoomed, this probably takes a bit of processor/battery juice but that's what it is there for. I am sure there are bugs as it is in BETA, but the darned thing works extremely well at what it does. I think a non-touch screen phone would be a bit clunky for navigation, but Treos are the original touchscreen phones, so no worries.

This is also the first mobile browser I have seen will run Vox's shitty Cocomment system.

There Are No Coincidences

Dude Flips out in Alabama. We won't get accurate details until after the handwringing furor has died down and the myths are made. There will be lots of emoting and women all over this country are right now thinking guns need to be taken away from the menfolk for their own good. Even from their own husbands, but he doesn't need to know that...

Dude Flips out in Germany. 17 year old shoots 12 teachers and 4 others with his daddy's guns. Prozac anyone? Ritalin? At least the German police had the 'nads to shoot him themselves - In america our cops hide behind their cruisers and hope he will kill himself after he is doneshooting the defenseless.

The europeans will show us the way... As the reporter hastens to recount the history of such illogical and counterproductive measures in the aftermath of other similar emotive media orgies.

It is times like these that bring out the purely despicable nature of the officious news reporter. Degreed and pedigreed to slant the news and spin it off toward the desired reaction from the casual reader who trusts him to accurately convey, at the very least, the gist of events. Misplaced trust, that. For these cretins are nothing if not propogandists for the left still regugitating and reinforcing the lessons of their October Revolution inspired pasty university professors.

One more step toward the real killing will follow this action/reaction chain. How large the step will be cannot be foretold as yet, and I'll not make any predictions lest they become suggestions to bootlicking scum looking to advance the cause of rendering americans defenseless and at the mercy of an ever more fascist federal government.

The Smartest People in the World

During the Hillary! campaign we were tirelessly told Hillary Clinton was the smartest woman in the world. Many actually believe(d) that. We have also been inundated with accounts of the oratory prowess, experience, massive intelligence, and general wonderfulness of the Obamanation in Chief.

Reality struck in these last few days as it has come to light that the Great Orator cannot compose and articulate thoughts without the aid of a teleprompter no matter how informal or insignificant the venue and Hillary! cannot, with the might and resources of the FedGov at her disposal, translate correctly a single Russian word for use on the world's stage. You may note from the picture that the device she handed him was actually an "E-stop" or "Emergency Stop" button.
You actually turn the knob to begin the process of restarting the machinery. Thus the arrows! Doh! I fully expect OSHA to hand down a mandate that all E-stop buttons are to be hereafter relabeled as Emergency Restart buttons so the SecState can pretend she was right all along.

The Obamanation in Chief has further shown himself to be completely ignorant of economic reality and processes, not to mention the inability to lead by glibly driving the market lower and lower day by day.

Our new Secretary of State went to Israel to explain to Netanyahu about in inevitability of the Palestinian State while rockets from Gaza rained down around them as proof of it's viability.

If that wasn't enough, the Obamanation in Chief floated a trial balloon toward Putin about a deal for some influence with Iran and got bitchslapped back into the cheap seats.

In short, we have seen the annointed elite of the fascist left exposed as exactly what they sought to package Sarah Palin - rubes and amateurs.

Responding to the Ammunition Shortage: What to Do When You Can't Find .223

From Shooting Times

You are, of course saving and scrounging all the .223 brass you can get your hands on. Yes? So,
make your own, right down to the jacketed bullet.

You need your reloading press and a special swaging die. Now gather all the .22 long rifle cases you can so long as they are brass (steel can be used in a pinch and may help with penetration, but it's hard on the tooling and the barrel). Press the spent cases making them into new bullet jackets and fill them with lead! Weight the bullets and load the cases with powder and primer as per your reloading manual(s).

Swaging dies are expensive, to the point one would have to make about 5000 bullets to recover the cost even using "found" lead for the cores. But a man with the right tools can make the appropriate tooling given time and necessity. Something to think on, anyway.
