The Experiment Ends

Q: What did we learn?
A: You really can't make a silk purse from a sows ear.

With the primary and mandatory design specification that a completely obsolete power plant be utilized Eric Buell failed to build a state of the art, commercially successful sportbike.

Doh!

Gotta give the man credit, though. He tried like hell and damned near reinvented the wheel to do so.

California is SO on Top of Global Warming

They are considering "black cars", banning big screen TV's, and converting to the exclusive use of concrete rather than "blacktop" road surfaces.

All these things are supposed to directly or indirectly contribute to our record snowfall - I mean, gloabal warming and the desired outcome is less heat absorbed by lighter colours.

Does this mean I am genetically disposed to fostering a cooler planet? Is california going to require black folk to wear white hats and ban excessively large afro's?

I Know Ya'll have Already Seen This

but, Damn!

Take a powder, ladies.

Bill sent me some pics of his iteration of a waterproof camera case. I am having flashbacks from the "duct tape and bailing wire" days of riding with the KLR crowd. If you can't make it out of PVC and epoxy, you don't need it anyway.

First: This was obviously Bill's inspiration.

The Beginning of the End.

Cracks are forming in the wall of consensus those of us with any sense at all have been hammering against for the last decade.

When the BBC utters globalwarming/climatechange blasphemy it's a sea change.

I. am. in. hell.

Public Relations Genius

Nasa bombs the moon and doesn't stop to think folk might want to see something cool like that? If they get to blowin' shit up folks will clamber to get them more funding if for nothing else than cool videos.

You go to the article expecting a major impact and dust and explosions and the megabrains put up an infrared picture of the stage separation from a rocket they think everybody should give a shit about.

Clueless. Makes you wonder if they really do any of the stuff they say they do.

Past the Point of No Return

The last olympics!

"It could be that the 2016 Games are the last Olympics in the history of mankind," Ishihara told reporters at a Tokyo 2016 press event ahead of the vote.

"Global warming is getting worse. We have to come up with measures without which Olympic Games could not last long.

"Scientists have said we have passed the point of no return," said Ishihara.

I guess a politician is a politician and a scientist is a whore no matter where you are.

This was Bound to Happen

Census worker hanged with 'fed' on body

By DEVLIN BARRETT and JEFFREY McMURRAY (AP)

WASHINGTON — The FBI is investigating the hanging death of a U.S. Census worker near a Kentucky cemetery, and a law enforcement official told The Associated Press the word 'fed" was scrawled on the dead man's chest.

The body of Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old part-time Census field worker and occasional teacher, was found Sept. 12 in a remote patch of the Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky. The Census has suspended door-to-door interviews in rural Clay County, where the body was found, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Investigators are still trying to determine whether the death was a killing or a suicide, and if a killing, whether the motive was related to his government job or to anti-government sentiment.

Investigators have said little about the case. The law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the case and requested anonymity, said Wednesday the man was found hanging from a tree and the word "fed" was written on the dead man's chest. The official did not say what type of instrument was used to write the word.

The U.S. Census Bureau is overseen by the Commerce Department.

It is probably wise to stay outa Daniel Boone National Forest while asking locals a lot of nosy questions door-to-door. When the fedgov made it OK to seize folks property where dope was found, growers started growing on government land. They get kinda angry when folks go snooping around.
